BIPOC Peer Supporters - Peer Support Canada Community of Practice

Peer Support Canada’s National Community of Practice (CoP) Programming provides welcoming, facilitated spaces for peer supporters across Canada to connect, reflect, and learn together. Each CoP brings together peer supporters with shared roles, settings, or areas of practice to explore real experiences, questions, and scenarios from their work, while grounding discussion in peer support values and practice standards.

This CoP is intended to be dedicated space for peer supporters who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour to connect, share experiences, and explore issues that affect their work and communities. This CoP will be facilitated by 2 BIPOC Peer Support Workers. Note that only individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous or a Person of Colour may register to participate in this CoP space.

The Community of Practice will include four virtual sessions over the coming year, with sessions taking place approximately every three months. Dates and times for each session will be confirmed and shared with participants as they become available.

These sessions are facilitated, discussion-based learning opportunities rather than webinars. Participants will be encouraged to actively contribute through group discussion, breakout conversations, scenario-based learning, and opportunities to bring forward questions or experiences from their own practice.

We ask all participants to review the Community Discussion Guidelines before attending and to ensure that any examples or scenarios shared respect the confidentiality of peers and organizational privacy policies.

Participants can indicate their interest in participating in the Community of Practice and their availability to attend sessions as dates are confirmed. There is no expectation that participants attend all four sessions, and each session may include a combination of returning participants and new participants. Space is limited for each session, and invitations will be extended on a rolling basis as session dates approach. We will do our best within our capacity to provide opportunities for as many interested participants as possible to take part in the Community of Practice.
