About
Black Graduation is Friday, May 16, 2025 from 11am-2pm. It is a 7 College inclusive (the 5 undergraduate institutions and both graduate institutions) and free celebratory event open to Claremont Colleges students, faculty, staff and guests of graduates. Graduates should register on this form. General audience members/guests of graduates do not need to register.

Schedule
Following the Dean's welcome, recognition of Africana studies thesis awards, singing of the Black National Anthem and alumni keynote, graduates are presented with acknowledgment certificates from OBSA and each graduate has the option of a 30 second speech. A free lunch with dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian options will be served in the theater courtyard following the ceremony (approx. 1pm-2pm).

Seating
Graduates will have reserved seating onstage. There is no reserved seating for general audience members but an overflow room will be provided in the complex.

Attire
Regalia/cap and gowns are encouraged but not required. There is no dress code for graduates. OBSA does not provide cap and gowns. OBSA will hire professional photographers and provide a step and repeat at the event.

Free Kente stoles for graduates
Kente stoles are offered free of charge to graduates only, and distributed the week of Black graduation at OBSA (139 E. 7th Street on May 9, 12-15, 9:30am-4:30pm) as well as at graduate check in on event day (Allen Theater on May 16 starting at 9am).

ARRIVAL TIME FOR GRADUATES CHECK IN:
9am to Allen Theater (in the Seaver Complex). Guests and family members are welcome to be present in Allen theater, and should be aware of the following:

DOORS OPEN FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF GRADUATES: 10am
DOORS OPEN FOR GENERAL PUBLIC: 10:15am at Seaver Theater.
PROCESSION INTO SEAVER THEATER FROM ALLEN THEATER: 10:45am

These instructions and additional reminders will be sent directly to registrants leading up to the event. ALL who wish to participate in Black Graduation are welcome, regardless of advance registration (registering guarantees a kente stole and appearance in the program). Onsite and late registration will be permitted up until 11:30am on event day.
