Showcase your board and executive leadership practices, partnerships and student-focused strategies by presenting at the OSBA Annual Convention! We’re seeking presentations that highlight hands-on, practical approaches that have impacted student outcomes. Below are the presentation topics and examples of focus areas we are seeking.

Optimizing School Funding and Resources to Meet Student Needs
  • The board’s role in overseeing the budget
  • Strategies to improve efficiencies and optimize resources
  • School budgeting and finance tips – understanding Oregon’s funding system from a board perspective
  • How to navigate legislative changes regarding limited funding resources
  • Budget committee process
How to Build a Positive Leadership Team Culture
  • Policies, communication protocols, and procedures that help foster positive and safe learning environments
  • Board-superintendent/president/executive director relationship tips and common pitfalls to avoid
  • Ways to keep boards informed and engaged with the community to build support for your mission and vison
  • Tools for collaboration -- how to assess board performance, executive evaluations, and how to model and foster professional and respectful relationships
How to Measure Student Outcomes Effectively
  • How to use data and reports to track progress and guide board decisions
  • The board’s role in vision, mission and setting strategic priorities
  • Addressing the learning needs of all students & setting high expectations
  • Inclusive practices and policies that reduce barriers for students
  • School safety, health and wellness
Partnering with Community, Students, and Family for Student Success
  • Advocacy success stories and lessons learned
  • Family and community engagement strategies
  • Partnering with student board representatives to address student needs and access student voice
  • Creating and leveraging local and state partnerships to improve student success
  • Strategic planning initiatives and goal setting process

Workshop Prerequisites
  • Student Presenters: Must have parent/guardian permission and be accompanied by a designated chaperone and complete a student registration form.
  • If you are an educational entity submitting a proposal, you must partner with one of our members (school district, education service district, charter school, and/or community college).
  • Sales pitches will not be permitted.
Selection Criteria
  • New ideas, approaches, or practices that have achieved measurable results. Evidence-based strategies are encouraged but not required.
  • Include visuals and materials that clearly communicate the content of your presentation.
  • Offer practical tips and takeaways relevant to our audience, including:
    • K–12 public school boards
    • Charter school boards
    • Education service district boards
    • Community college boards
    • Superintendents, presidents, executive directors, and other district leadership
    • Administrative professionals and board clerks
Presenter Requirements
  • Please do not submit a proposal unless you are able to appear on Nov. 7 & 8. Presenter(s) will be notified as scheduling determinations are made.
  • Please do not have panels of more than 4 people.
  • Do not list individuals as co-presenters unless a commitment has been confirmed from them to appear on the program.
  • Presenters who only intend to present during their session and will not stay for the conference do not need to register.
  • OSBA will provide a projector, screen, and microphones. Presenters will need to provide their own VGA/HDMI compatible laptop.
OSBA staff will review proposals and follow up with those who have been selected.
