BIALL 2026: Embedded Intelligence: Working Across Borders, Teams, and Time Zones

Ahead of a BIALL 2026 Conference presentation on working with other teams, we would like to know more about which law firms have strategic research teams and where they ‘sit’ in the organization. We define this team as one which is separate to the main library & information service, even if part of the same broader department. If you work at a firm which has such a team, whether or not you work in it, we would be very grateful if you would complete the attached survey. Responses will be anonymized.

Many thanks,

Donna Cavallini and Ian Hunter
1.Name of firm (this is purely to deduplicate results and will not be shared or publicized). If you prefer not to say, please skip this question.
2.Does your firm have a strategic research function, separate to the main library & information service?
3.If yes, how many are in the team?
4.In which department does the strategic research function currently reside?
5.Which types of research does your strategic research team handle? (Select all that apply)
6.Does the strategic research team charge its time to client/matter numbers? (Please answer 'No' if the team only ever charges its time to an 'admin' or 'catch all' number.)
7.What AI product(s) or AI-enabled traditional software has the strategic research team found to be the most effective application of AI in helping with its workflow or work product?
8.Who are the main direct users of the strategic research team's services?
9.How many lawyers does the strategic research team potentially support (regardless of location)?
10.How many lawyers work in your firm globally?
