SURVEY PURPOSE AND LOGISTICS

Thank you for participating in our survey. Your feedback is important.

Survey purpose

Reclamation and Restoration (R&R) are key parts of the economy and provide a broad suite of services to Canadians, yet little information is available regarding Canada's R&R economy. This survey provides a unique chance to scope out the R&R economy in British Columbia and identify the supply chain and public and private organizations that support it. By doing so, we hope to define its strength and value to the provincial and national economy and key growth opportunities. In addition, we hope to shine a light on the complex suite of services and benefits that it provides for the region and improve understanding of the vibrant community of practice that supports it. This survey follows a similar survey of the Alberta R&R economy completed in 2019/20.

We draw the distinction between reclamation and restoration activities in Question 2. Decommissioning and remediation activities are not part of this survey. If your organization only does decommissioning and remediation activities, then please answer Question 1 and exit the survey.

Survey ethics

Responses to the survey will be kept anonymous and results aggregated so that people, companies, and organizations will not be discernible. Participation in the survey is voluntary.

Alternate formats, logistics, and timing

If you would prefer to get the survey in an alternate format (Word or PDF) or provide your responses by phone, please contact Chris Powter: email to:enviroqas@shaw.ca.

The survey requires an answer for every question – answer options including "not applicable," "don’t know," or "don’t want to say."

There are 35 Questions in four categories (Background, Human Resources, Financial Information, and Impact of Recent Events) and a final open comment question to complete the survey.

This survey should take 20 minutes to complete.

Survey distribution

The survey is being distributed widely through many provincial organizations likely to have members involved to some extent in R&R activities to ensure we get the greatest number of responses. As a result, you may see the request to fill in the survey multiple times – we apologize for this and ask that you only complete the survey once. NOTE: we would also like to have a survey response from the organizations themselves, as well as their members, since the role of the organizations is very important in the overall R&R economy.
Who should respond

Where possible, the survey should be answered at the corporate, Ministry, or organization level for the province (i.e., not by individuals, regional offices, or corporate/Ministry/organization divisions).

Survey preparation

To save time, we recommend having the following information available before beginning the survey,
  • number of staff involved in R&R activities,
  • number of full-time equivalents that equate to the staff numbers, and
  • approximate value for R&R revenue and expenses for the fiscal year ending in 2019.
Survey closure

The survey closes on December 23rd, 2020.

Survey report

A report summarizing the results of the survey plus the background literature review will be available in 2021. If you are interested in receiving a copy of this report, please contact Chris Powter: email to:enviroqas@shaw.ca.
