VOLUNTEERCONNECT’s BoardConnect program offers specialized training for individuals interested in serving as a member of a nonprofit Board of Trustees.  Topics will include board member governance, legal and fiduciary responsibilities and advocacy and fundraising.   These courses will prepare the participant to fully engage on a nonprofit Board of Trustees.  Participants will then attend a Meet and Greet Nonprofit Fair to facilitate introductions to a variety of area nonprofits.  We recommend attendance at nonprofit events and/or inclusion in committee work as a stepping stone to final board placement but all participants will be prepared for board level participation.

There is limited enrollment to this program.  Participants will be notified by phone and/or email of their acceptance and of any additional details regarding BoardConnect.  The training sessions will occur in April & May and the Meet and Greet will be held on Wednesday, June 6th. 1.  Attendance is expected at all in-class training and the Meet and Greet Nonprofit Fair. The participant needs to notify VolunteerConnect in writing if a session is going to be missed. If more than one session is missed without prior approval, the participant will be advised to discontinue the program.  Should the participant need to withdraw from the training section of the program because of an emergency, or due to an unforeseen issue, the applicant will be permitted one other opportunity at a later date to re-enroll in a future program.
2.  The BoardConnect Meet & Greet Nonprofit Fair will take place on Wednesday, June 6th.  This is a mandatory event for those selected to participate in the BoardConnect program. It will be the only opportunity to meet each of the participating nonprofit organizations.
3.  The participant must be committed to engaging in an appropriate match with a nonprofit organization. The initial experience may be dedication to a nonprofit (attending events, performances, etc.,) committee work and/or board inclusion, as determined jointly by the participant and the nonprofit organization.

4.  Participants will be expected to notify VolunteerConnect when they have committed to an organization and/or if any changes occur to that status within a year from the start of your service. 

5.  Participants in the BoardConnect program will be expected to complete evaluations of the program and evaluations of the subsequent nonprofit experience for up to one year (surveys, interviews, etc.) to support long-term outcome measurements.

6.  There is a fee of $400 for the eight hours of training and the Meet & Greet Nonprofit Fair.  Payment is expected prior to the first session.  Many corporations and businesses encourage employees to engage at a board level within the community and will pay the training fee for professional development.  Please let VolunteerConnect know if you need to submit an invoice as proof of enrollment or reimbursement. 

Course Schedule
There will be four 2-hour training sessions for board participants.   All courses are taught by subject experts.  The training sessions will be held at the offices of VolunteerConnect at 12 Stockton Street, Princeton, NJ 08540 from 6:00-8:00pm.
