1. About this Nomination Package

This package details the nomination process, guidelines, and criteria in respect of the election of Directors to the Board of Directors of the BC Chamber of Commerce.

2. About the BC Chamber of Commerce

The BC Chamber of Commerce is the largest and most broadly-based business association in British Columbia, representing 100 chambers of commerce and boards of trade, and 36,000 businesses of every size, and from every sector and region of the province.

With a rich history that spans more than 70 years, the BC Chamber of Commerce is an established, non-partisan voice in the business community and has helped shape government public policy and decision-making to empower British Columbia’s businesses.

In this post-pandemic era, now more than ever, the provincial association is committed to engaging with its members – all of them, regardless of size or location - listening to their concerns and evolving needs and responding through bold and proactive advocacy and the delivery of a curated suite of programs, services and business resources.


3. About the BC Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors

Excellence in leadership and governance are central to the work of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors sets the vision and direction of the organization through its strategic plan which is informed through member feedback and delivered by the President and CEO and staff. The Board of Directors has ultimate responsibility for setting governance policy.

As per the BC Chamber of Commerce Bylaws, the Board of Directors comprises:
  • The Chair, Vice Chair and Immediate Past Chair;
  • Eight (8) Directors elected by the membership, who represent the seven regions of the province: Northwest BC, Northeast BC, Central BC, Thompson/Okanagan, Kootenays, Lower Mainland/Southwest, and Vancouver Island/Gulf Islands;
  • The Chair of the Audit Committee, a position that is appointed by the Board of Directors; and
  • Up to four (4) Directors at Large, also appointed by the Board of Directors
All Directors serve a two (2) year term and may serve up to three (3) successive terms should the Director be successfully re-elected or re-appointed. In addition, the Board of Directors may appoint special advisors to provide counsel on e.g. legal and other matters, as well as a designated representative of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of BC.
