Thank you for giving your insight on this important area of business.

Most people in the UK work for organisations that have fewer than 500 employees. This survey aims to understand how these organisations approach internal communications. It will take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Your responses will help provide an overview of internal communications across British SMEs and mid-sized organizations.

This research is being conducted by John Clegg FCIPR as part of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Research Fund. The report will be published later this year.

Definitions:

Internal Communications - The process by which an organisation informs and interacts with employees to motivate staff and maximise their performance to deliver the business objectives. Some examples of internal communications can include company announcements such as a new strategy, updates and performance results, as well as communicating new processes, systems, or changes to the business. Internal communication is wide-ranging, and while all employees will need to communicate with one another, we are specifically interested in how the organisation communicates with its employees (and vice versa) at an enterprise level.

Internal Communications Function - The business or organisational unit that is responsible for facilitating communication between the organisation and employees, as specified above. This function can take many forms, ranging from a large team of employees to an individual full-time role or even (in some instances) only forming part of someone’s job responsibilities.
