Raffle for free tickets to December 16 screening, 7:15pm at West End Theater

A new film opening this Friday in Washington warns that the injustices to the workers, environment and communities in the coalfields of Appalachia are the “canary in a coal mine” — warning us what happens when corporations are allowed absolute control and politicians abdicate responsibility for those they are elected to protect. Blood on the Mountain https://www.facebook.com/BloodontheMountain/, (which screened earlier this year at the Metro Council’s monthly Bread & Roses series) focuses on environmental and economic injustice and corporate control in West Virginia and its rippling effect on all American workers. The film is especially timely, given President-elect Donald Trump’s stated intentions of reviving coal mining and reducing environmental and other regulations. It’s also especially urgent because the pension and health benefits of 12,500 former Patriot coal miners will end on December 31 despite bipartisan support of The Miners Protection Act.
