How to determine what material your water service line is made of:· First, locate your water meter. Use the picture below to help.
In general, if you own a single-family residence, your water meter will be located inside the house, in the basement, crawlspace or garage (see box labeled "M" in the house shown in the picture above).
If you own a townhouse or condominium and receive a water bill from the Town, you have your own water meter, as opposed to a "master meter" for the entire complex. You should find your water meter and identify the material your service line is made of using the directions below and complete the survey.
If you don't receive a water bill from the Town, your complex likely has a "master meter" and your homeowners association should complete this survey.
If you own a commercial property, please complete a survey for each water meter that services your property. If you have one "master meter" that services the entire property, please complete one survey for that meter only. If you need help finding your "master meter" please know that it may be located within one of the units or buildings on your property; or it may be located outside, affixed to or near one of the buildings on your property or in a vault or pit located on either side of the property boundary (see picture below). If you can access your "master meter," please identify the material your service line is made of using the directions below and complete the survey. If you can't gain access to your "master meter," you do not need to proceed with this survey.
If you receive a water bill from the Town, but don't own the property, please advise the property owner of the survey and how they can complete it.
· Once you locate your water meter, follow the instructions below to test the pipes leading to or from the water meter. You may also click on the link below for a video demonstration.
