Calling all artists!!
In partnership with Pierce College, Mi Centro is opening its official Lakewood office at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom.
To commemorate this historic partnership, Mi Centro is soliciting local community members for their creativity and talent to design the murals within Mi Centro's office space. The goal for this design contest is that the selected pieces will be revealed during our opening ceremony on October 15.
Two murals are planned to be placed in the office, one designed by a student and another designed by you. This is a paid opportunity. Artists will be will be paid $1500 for their work and materials.
We would like this office space to feel warm, welcoming, and empowering. The student design will bring a learner's perspective to our office space. We are wanting your designs to bring a cultural and inspiring feeling, in which when you see the mural you feel the space has chosen you. We are inspired by our own family homes, chosen community spaces, circles that represent home, and all spaces that are nourishing and prove what we need.
While we have ideas of what we would like to see, we are open to any creative ideas that artists may have. Be as creative and imaginative as you can, we are here for it!
The indoor working space measures 28 feet wide and 8 feet 7 inches tall. You piece may comprise up to 5 feet tall and 8 feet wide.
To help you, see below for Mi Centro's existing murals at our Tacoma office. Please include Pierce College and Seattle Credit Union's logo, or a restyled version to conform with the piece, in your submission.
Submissions are due by Thursday, October 1st by 1:00 PM. Late submissions are not guaranteed to be reviewed.
Submissions should be uploaded to this application or sent to
adan.espino@micentrowa.org, with email title "Mural Art Submission"
