Consultation on National Nature Reserve Proposal

Introduction
Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. This survey will take 5-7 minutes to complete.

Following approval from Executive Council (ExCo paper 181/25), the Falkland Islands Government is holding a public consultation on a proposal to expand the National Nature Reserves (NNR) network throughout the Falkland Islands.

This public consultation was approved by ExCo because, if the proposal were adopted, the land proposed as national nature reserves would become protected by law, regulations would be applied to them, and they would be included in the national nature reserves network. Consultation ensures stakeholders and the public have an opportunity to provide feedback on the proposals.

The proposal includes creating 10 new reserves and expanding 5 existing reserves under the Conservation of Wildlife and Nature Ordinance, 1999. The proposed reserves are located on land owned by the Falklands Islands Government (FIG) or by private landowners. Private landowners have given their full support to the proposal.
Members of Legislative Assembly had expressed their intent to create additional protected areas in the Falkland Islands through the Islands Plan 2022 – 2026 and the Environment Strategy 2021 – 2040.

This survey presents a summary of the proposal. The full details of the proposal are available on the consultation page here.
