Question Title

* 1. What Matters Most in the Future of the Woden Town Centre?

We’d like your thoughts on the principles guiding the Concept Masterplan. These principles aim to shape a vibrant, inclusive Town Centre that supports community life well into the future.

Please read through the principles below, then rank them from 1 (most important) to 5 (least important). Each number can only be used once, so please give each principle a different ranking.

  1 2 3 4 5
An enduring framework for growth: A long-term plan that stays flexible as the area grows and changes.
It supports development beyond the site and current trends to promote a cleaner, more liveable environment.
Engaging with the landscape: Connect new spaces with existing parks and green areas. Use local plants and smart design to create shady, comfortable, low-maintenance places that stay cool and support nature.
Diverse experiences for a connected town centre: Create a walkable town centre with new streets, local shops, and social spaces for everyone. Support day and night activity, with a mix of affordable experiences, flexible spaces, and everything you need within a short walk.
Mixing uses: Create a lively town centre with a mix of homes, jobs, services, and spaces for all ages. Plan for busy areas and quiet zones, with thoughtful design to ensure uses successfully co-exist.
Livable communities: Support long-term residency by offering housing for all life stages, flexible community spaces, and places that promote health, connection, and climate-friendly living. Include shared gardens, spaces for events, and public areas where people can meet, relax, and belong.
Strengthening Community Life in Woden

Scentre Group, owner and operator of Westfield Woden, has long contributed to the identity and growth of the Woden Town Centre. A Community Benefit Analysis has recently been carried out to inform the Concept Masterplan, identifying three key opportunities to strengthen local community, arts and recreation spaces within the site:
  • Strengthening dedicated arts and culture facilities
  • Strengthening indoor recreation space
  • Strengthening multi-purpose community areas for events, programs and gatherings.

The following three questions (2, 3 & 4) seek to better understand community priorities within these categories.

Exploring Building Height

The Concept Masterplan reflects a brave, forward-looking commitment: a willingness to think differently about how Canberra grows, so that Woden can become a vibrant, sustainable Town Centre for future generations. The following two questions seek to better understand the community's openness to significant increases in building height when delivered alongside clear community benefits and good design outcomes.

Question Title

* 5. Building Height and Community Benefits
The Concept Masterplan proposes a dynamic mix of building heights, ranging from low and mid-rise podium development (at the base of buildings) to the tallest tower at 55 storeys. This approach celebrates taller buildings as architectural landmarks while low-mid rise buildings frame streets, plazas and open spaces.

How strongly do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
I would support the proposed building heights if they are delivered alongside community benefits, good design and positive planning outcomes such as more housing, better public spaces and new community facilities.

Question Title

* 6. Designing Taller Buildings That Feel Right for the Town Centre

The Concept Masterplan includes building heights which go well beyond the City's current tallest buildings, with the goal being to support more open space, housing and community benefit. While the detailed design is yet to come, the shape and positioning of buildings will be critical to the experience of the Town Centre. Thoughtful design can create spaces that feel open, welcoming and human-scaled while poor design risks reduced comfort and amenity.

Which of the following aspects of tower design is most important to you for the site? Rank the following by importance (1 = most important) or select N/A.

Thinking About Future Living at the Site

The next three questions (7, 8 & 9) focus on who might live at the site in the future and what’s most important to them when choosing a home.

Question Title

* 7. Which of the following best describes you? (Choose the option that fits you best)

Question Title

* 8. Can you see yourself living in the future residential buildings planned for the site?

Question Title

* 9. If yes, what features would most attract you to live at this site? (Select your top 5)

Question Title

* 10. Local Identity

Past community engagement within the Woden Town Centre has shown a strong desire for a leafy, green and strong local character. Place-based design requires inspiration from the cultural, historical and environmental character of the area to create development that is authentic, local and creates a sense of place.

Below are examples previously suggested by the community as inspiration for local identity.

Which of these would you like to see reflected in the design of this proposal? (You can select more than one)
