WISE Panel - 2021 Call for Participants |
Submission deadline: TBD
The Technical Committee of Sensors Converge 2021: Design Innovation Meets Tech Innovation is currently seeking enthusiastic and qualified speakers to participate in our 5th annual WISE: Women in Sensors & Electronics panel, taking place during Sensors Converge - September 21-23, 2021.
Panel Description:
Diversity & Inclusion: Why They’re Critical to Design & Technology Innovation
Diverse teams are critical to technology innovation. Building a team of people from different backgrounds, cultures, and abilities does more than just fill a growing need for talent - it helps us identify biases in our technology and truly allows us to design diversified products and services tailored to a variety of people around the world. For instance, when designing an iris scan detect and authenticate technology, engineering teams found that the system did not work on women with long/full eyelashes. However, we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg – there are countless more scenarios.
In this panel discussion, the 5th annual WISE gathering, speakers will discuss how to identify and solve for these biases, from building diverse teams, to user testing and the datasets we construct, to amplifying the voice and ideas of underrepresented groups at the leadership level. Join us as we celebrate our differences and design for the better.
