VISION STATEMENT: Neighbors who are engaged with each other and the land in a thriving, diverse community

MISSION STATEMENT: To build a sustainable community in Rosedale by growing food, sharing resources, and practicing hospitality and peacemaking

SYNOPSIS: We are a diverse group of 15+ neighbors living in several households in or near the Rosedale neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas. We differ in our genders, abilities, orientations, ethnicities and faith traditions. One of us lives in a tiny house and dreams of more tiny house neighbors. Some of us live in single-family style homes that are full; others have rooms available. Our neighborhood also has empty lots available for purchase as well as entire homes for rent or purchase.

Currently some of us share vehicles, labor, lawn mowers, a workshop, a vegetable garden, a fruit orchard, hospitality, potlucks, CSA local food memberships and other resources as needed. We dream of sharing a cow, goats, chickens, rabbits and perhaps other homestead animal neighbors.

As a community, we encourage healthy, compassionate relationships with our selves, with one another, and with the world around us to sustain our spiritual, interpersonal and financial lives. We move toward these goals by practicing service, simple living, conflict resolution and nonviolent communication. We will seek to honor, understand, celebrate and inclusively respond to diversity. We nurture spirituality in ways that recognize the sacred in every person and cultivate a healthy balance between work, rest, education, reflection and recreation. We hope to keep the cost as low, fair and ethical as possible by avoiding for-profit loans and sharing some of our collective resources to realize what we need one project at a time. In all this, we aim to keep learning and to keep giving thanks.

We invite other neighbors to join us in creating a sacred space to explore sustainable community living.
