Dear Survey Participant:

We are conducting a survey of advocates, attorneys, social workers and others in the field working with immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and human trafficking. As a service provider working with immigrant survivors of violence, we know you have witnessed the extent to which immigration enforcement and fears of deportation is affecting immigrant survivors' willingness to seek help from the courts, police and prosecutors.

We would like to know more about the kinds of immigration enforcement actions that victims are experiencing and the extent to which that impacts their participation in judicial and law enforcement activities. The purpose of this survey is to understand what impact, if any, increased immigration enforcement and recent reports of immigration enforcement in courthouses has had on immigrants' willingness to participate in the justice system. The survey information below will help to identify how concerns about immigration enforcement are affecting immigrant crime victims and their children and the extent to which immigrant victim’s willingness to seek help from the justice system and other services providers has changed in 2017 compared to 2016.

This survey asks similar questions about four groups of immigrant victims:
  1. VAWA self-petition and VAWA cancellation or suspension applicants (Questions 11-41)
  2. U visa victims (Questions 42-75)
  3. Trafficking victims (Questions 76-104)
  4. Victims who sought protection orders (Questions 105-133)

Please answer the questions that relate to the types of cases you have handled in 2016 and 2017.  Some of you may only have clients in one or two of the types of cases we ask questions about here.  You may skip the questions in the survey that do not relate to the clients you serve.  The question numbers listed above by topic will make it easier for you to move through the survey.

Survey testers who see clients in 3 types of cases reported that the survey took them between 40 minutes and an hour to complete.  We thank you in advance for your help in taking the time to complete this important survey.

Please answer the questions in the sections of the survey that apply to your 2016 and/or 2017 clients. If there are groups of immigrant victims that you cannot report on, please forward this survey to someone within your agency that can.

Please answer all the questions to the best of your ability. The more information you provide the better we will be able to document the experiences of immigrant crime victims in communities across the country.

Your help forwarding this survey to others working with immigrant victims in your community, in your state and in your networks would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your participation! We will distribute the results widely: to you, your organization, and nationally.
