Questionnaire

The City of Des Moines is preparing an update to the Parks, Recreation and Senior Services (PRSS) Master Plan. This plan guides decision-making for future park, open space, and programming investments.
 
This questionnaire is designed for those who could not attend the Des Moines Activity Center Open House on September 8th, 2021.
 
The City wants to hear from you! Please provide your feedback below.

Where We Are in the Process
The City and consulting team have:
  • Conducted community engagement with approximately 100 participants so far (including booths at two Farmer's Markets and an open house at Midway Park on August 3rd)
  • Interviewed six community organizations
  • Sent a community survey to a random sample of Des Moines residents
  • Compiled parks inventory and performed initial analysis
  • Collected information about programming
 
Next Steps
  • Collect additional community feedback through the September 8th open house, this questionnaire, and email responses
  • Present to the City Council Municipal Facilities Committee
  • Prepare a final draft of the plan
  • Present the final draft to City Council

* 3. A vision statement expresses the community’s values and priorities for the future of Des Moines parks, recreation, and senior services.

The following statement is a work-in-progress based on community engagement up to now.

"Our vision is for an active, engaged Des Moines community, where our parks, open spaces, and programming are fun and accessible for all ages and abilities. As a community, we take care of our public spaces and keep them clean and safe. We protect the natural amenities that make Des Moines a beautiful place to live. There are a range of recreation options available, including sports facilities, places for gathering, places for passive recreation, and opportunities to connect with nature. There are exciting and engaging things to do in all seasons and weather. The City provides services that enhance community health, including opportunities to stay active, learn, access healthy food, and connect with others. Our seniors are supported through a range of programs and resources and are socially connected. City programming is low-cost or free and inclusive of all cultures and backgrounds. Finally, our community is actively engaged in future planning for the City’s facilities and programs."
