Beneficial effects of maqui berry extract on inflammation in adults with Type 2 Diabetes

Survey

Researchers in the nutrition program at Arizona State University (ASU) are conducting a research study to investigate the effects of natural food-based supplements on inflammation biomarkers:  maqui berry extract and omega-3 fatty acids (e.g., fish oil).  We are recruiting healthy, non-smoking adults with type 2 diabetes.  We are inviting your participation in the screening process, which will consist of answering questions regarding health history, demographics, and scheduling availability. This research will require three visits to the test site located on the ASU downtown Phoenix campus for blood draws.  You have the right not to answer any question, and to stop participation at any time. Your participation in this screening process is voluntary. If you choose not to participate or to withdraw from the survey at any time, there will be no penalty. Your responses to this survey will not be linked to your name but may be used in aggregate form for publications and presentations. If you meet the criteria for this study, you will be contacted for further screening.  If you have any questions concerning the research study, please contact Samantha Fessler, a doctoral student in the nutrition program at ASU, at sfessler@asu.edu. You may also contact Dr. Carol Johnston, ASU Nutrition Professor who is leading this study at carol.johnston@asu.edu. If you have any questions about your rights as a subject/participant in this research, or if you feel you have been placed at risk, you can contact the Chair of the Human Subjects Institutional Review Board, through the ASU Office of Research Integrity and Assurance, at (480) 965-6788.

Completion of this survey will indicate your consent to participate in this screening.  You will be contacted by investigators (via e-mail) to schedule an appointment, should you qualify.
