Applications for the ASPIRE Lake County Summer Internship Program are due Friday, February 28, 2025. Whether you're a Lake County high school student exploring career options or a Lake County community member eager to break into the healthcare field, the ASPIRE Lake County program was created to support your professional journey.

The summer internship program will begin on Monday, June 2nd and conclude on Friday, August 8th, 2025.

The majority of internship opportunities will be available at Highland Park Hospital (777 Park Avenue West, Highland Park, Illinois) and various Endeavor Health Medical Group locations throughout Lake County and the surrounding area. There may be additional opportunities available at other Endeavor Health locations throughout the Chicagoland region.

This internship program enables students and community members with the opportunity to gain insights and knowledge of various healthcare career pathways.

Lab Assistant Intern
Join our dynamic laboratory team as a Lab Assistant Intern and gain hands-on experience in a clinical lab environment. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in healthcare and laboratory sciences to develop practical skills in specimen processing and laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Specimen Processing: Assist in the receipt and initial processing of biological specimens, ensuring accurate labeling and preparation for analysis.
Specimen Delivery: Deliver specimens to designated departments within the laboratory, following established protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Test Add-On: Facilitate the addition of tests to specimens as needed, collaborating with laboratory personnel to ensure accurate and timely processing.
Data Entry and Documentation: Accurately record and manage specimen information using the laboratory information system, ensuring data is entered promptly and correctly.
Quality Control: Participate in quality control procedures, including the handling and tracking of specimens to ensure compliance with safety and laboratory standards.
Communication: Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, ensuring clarity in specimen handoff and status updates.

Patient Care Tech/ Staff Support Tech Intern - Inpatient Nursing 3 East, 4 North Unit, and Perioperative Services
We are seeking motivated and compassionate individuals to join our Inpatient Nursing 4 North Unit as Patient Care Tech (PCT) Interns. This internship offers a unique opportunity to shadow nurses, secretaries, and support the PCT team as a Staff Support Tech, providing essential patient care and gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities:
Shadow a registered nurse (RN) to gain insights into patient care, nursing workflows, and healthcare coordination.
Shadow a unit secretary to learn about administrative functions, communication processes, and patient documentation.
Assist Patient Care Techs (PCTs) with patient care, including monitoring vital signs, assisting with mobility, and providing basic hygiene and comfort measures.
Perform tasks as a Staff Support Tech, assisting with the allocation and preparation of patient care supplies and equipment.
Support the transportation of patients within the unit and to other areas of the hospital as needed.
Ensure patient rooms are properly stocked and maintained, adhering to hospital safety and cleanliness standards.
Communicate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure high-quality patient care.
Pharmacy Tech Intern
Program Overview:
Join our team as a Pharmacy Intern and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic healthcare environment. This internship provides aspiring pharmacy professionals with the opportunity to work alongside experienced pharmacists and gain valuable knowledge in medication preparation, distribution, and patient care. Interns will develop key skills necessary for a successful career in pharmacy while contributing to the well-being of our patients.

What You Will Do:
Medication Preparation and Distribution: Assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, ensuring accuracy and safety in every step of the process.
Patient Record Management: Help maintain accurate and confidential patient records, including medication history and prescriptions.
Medication Set-Up: Set up medications for pharmacist verification, ensuring proper labeling and documentation before dispensing.
Packaging and Labeling: Package and label medication doses according to established protocols and standards.
Inventory Management: Maintain an accurate inventory of drug supplies, track expiration dates, and ensure timely reordering of medications.
Record Maintenance: Ensure that all records related to medications, inventory, and patient data are properly maintained and updated.
Work Under Supervision: Interns will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, receiving guidance and mentorship throughout the internship.
Sterile Core Tech Intern - Perioperative Services
We are seeking organized and dependable individuals to join our Perioperative Services team as Sterile Core Tech Interns. This role offers hands-on experience supporting the surgical team by ensuring the timely allocation and delivery of sterile supplies and specimens within the operating room (OR) environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist operating room (OR) staff by preparing and delivering sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
Ensure accurate and timely transportation of surgical specimens to the appropriate labs for analysis.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sterile core area, ensuring compliance with infection control and sterilization protocols.
Monitor inventory levels of sterile supplies and alert staff when restocking is needed.
Support the team in adhering to hospital safety protocols and maintaining a sterile environment.

Supply Chain Intern - Supply Chain
We are seeking detail-oriented and organized individuals to join our Supply Chain Department as Supply Chain Interns. This internship provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience in healthcare logistics, ensuring that supplies are efficiently managed and delivered to support patient care and hospital operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist in picking and preparing orders for delivery to various hospital units, ensuring timely and accurate distribution of medical supplies.
Deliver supplies to departments and ensure proper storage and organization within designated areas.
Conduct routine checks for expired items and remove or replace them according to hospital protocols.
Perform cycle counts of supply items to ensure accurate inventory records.
Organize supply areas, ensuring cleanliness, accessibility, and proper stock levels across units.
Collaborate with the supply chain team on inventory management and optimization projects.
