Survey of Australian and ASEAN Digital Trade

Thank you for indicating your interest in the Survey of Australian and ASEAN Digital Trade. The Survey is being undertaken by ASEAN and Australian stakeholders to identify challenges, strengths and opportunities for economic growth and development in the region through greater standards harmonisation prioritising digital trade. The survey also intends to determine possible priority areas for a future work program that supports harmonisation of digital standards and regulatory cooperation between Australia and ASEAN Member States.

The Survey has been developed to assess the ASEAN region's digital readiness and the current utilisation of national and international standards. It aims to determine areas of opportunity for collaboration in digital standards harmonisation, technical alignment, regulatory coherence, and policy cooperation and also uncover knowledge and participation gaps across the digital trade sphere.

The Survey is being conducted across all ten ASEAN Member States and Australia from Monday 5 February until Friday 27 March. The information gathered in the Survey will be provided to the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Member State Heads of State and the Australian Government, to make recommendations on future actions and activities that will promote the adoption and use of international standards in the digital sphere by ASEAN Member States and Australia to increase economic integration, raise awareness and enhance regional relationships.

- The Digital Economy refers to an economy that is based on digital information and communication technologies.

- Digital Readiness is the capacity for people to engage with online resources with full information about service attributes and use of personal and household data.

- A Standard is a document approved by a recognised body that provides rules, guidelines or characteristics for products or related processes and production methods, with which compliance is not mandatory.

- A Technical Regulation is a document which lays down product characteristics or their related processes and production methods, including the applicable administrative provisions, with which compliance is mandatory.
