Course Description:
Providing a broad overview of the risk management issues to be considered during the making of programmes, and help participants develop confidence and increase knowledge of best practice in creating and implementing safe working environments.

This coaching is for those who have already undertaken training in Risk Assessment and wish to practice applying the principles. Aimed at film & TV practitioners who complete and/or approve risk assessments or who are soon to step up into roles where the will be taking on this responsibility. This coaching session will embed the principles of Risk Assessment through a mixture of practical exercises, discussion and feedback.

You must undertake, or have already undertaken training in Risk Assessment to apply for the coaching session.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

- Create effective risk assessments for a variety of film and television production scenarios.
- Apply risk assessment principles in practical, real-world production contexts.
- Identify hazards and implement appropriate, proportionate control measures.
- Confidently take responsibility for developing and implementing risk assessments in senior roles.


Tutor
Our trainer, Health and Safety consultant, Mairi Ritchie has worked in TV and film production since 1998, first in STV Studios and Outside Broadcast and then in Production at BBC Drama, Scotland.

Mairi has been a safety consultant for Action Media Safety and First Option in Scotland for 9 years as well as running her own H&S Consultancy and Training. Mairi is the primary Health & Safety Consultation for scripted Film & TV productions in Scotland.

Who is this course for?
This course is for freelance film & TV practitioners in Scotland who manage people, safety on production and/or complete/approve risk assessments. This includes Executive Producers, Production Executives, Line Producers, Series Producers, Producers, Assistant Producers, Directors of Photography, 1st Assistant Directors, 2nd Assistant Directors, 3rd AD, Production Managers, Production Coordinators, HODs.

Specifically, it is for freelance film & TV practitioners who are either in or are stepping into senior role and are/will be responsible for creating and implementing risk assessments. This course is suitable for those who have already undertaken training in Risk Assessment and wish to practice applying the principles.

Eligibility:

This session is specifically for established film and television practitioners based in Scotland. Please only apply if you meet this criteria. BECTU opportunities for those in other areas of the UK can be found here:

• Applicants should be based and working freelance in film and television in Scotland.

• Students are not eligible for this training.

Selection:

• As this is a workshop style course, there are a limited number of spaces available to allow participants the opportunity to interact and ask questions.
• Places will be given to those who demonstrate the greatest professional need for this training with eligible Bectu members receiving priority for places.
• Places are provided free of charge but are worth a considerable amount. Please only apply if you can commit to attending the session.
