1. INTRODUCTION

Here is your 2015 Confidential Survey Questionnaire. This is the twenty-sixth year that we have conducted this Survey.

The Survey Report allows you and your Board to assess whether the range of salaries within your not-for-profit organization (NPO) is appropriate within the context of the NPO sector in British Columbia. The Survey Report also provides important information about governance and operational issues, such as: the length of directors' terms of office, the amount of honorariums paid, volunteer manuals, the frequency of directors’ meetings, conflict of interest guidelines, the cost of board liability insurance, as well as expense allowance rates.

The Survey Report is broadly used as a resource document within BC by volunteer Boards and staff in BC's not-for-profit sector. It is extremely important that we have a comparable sample of not-for-profits participating each year. Therefore, even if you do not intend to purchase a copy of the 2015 Report, please assist your not-for-profit colleagues by submitting your completed questionnaire. Your continued participation adds to the validity of the results.

Previous Reports provided much useful information regarding compensation. For example, in last year's survey, the highest salary of the Chief Executive Officers, by sub-sector, was: Industry $260,000, Professional $120,000, Registered Charity $150,000, and Common & Special Interest $160,000.

The Survey covers BC only and the results are tabulated by the following employee groupings: 1; 2 to 4; 5 to 10; 11 to 20; 21 to 50; 51 to 99; and over 100. The Report contains tables by salary related to NPO type, budget size, location, number of staff and employee positions. In addition to providing vital information to BC's larger not-for-profit organizations, the survey also meets the unique needs of small and medium sized NPOs operating in BC.

As a participant in this survey, you can get the report for $189 until January 31, 2016 and $249 afterwards. The cost of the report to non-participants is $350 until January 31, 2016 and $550 afterwards. These prices compare favorably to private sector reports that cost $600 for participants and $1,500 for non-participants.

In order to maintain confidentiality, information will be released only in the form of a statistical report of consolidated data.

The deadline for completing the questionnaire is December 4, 2015.
