Assisted Living Resident Discharges

Seeking Your Feedback

The Washington LTC Ombuds is advocating for a 90-day window for residents in community-based long term care settings to appeal discharge notices to the Office of Administrative Hearings. We believe the current 30-day notification of discharge is an appropriate period for a resident to appeal and are working to help inform the Legislature about the real challenges that occur when individuals who are no longer appropriate for care resist discharge to a more appropriate location to receive that care.

Please share your experience(s) with delayed or contested discharges for residents who were no longer appropriate for assisted living care.

2.Please take a moment to provide details of an occurrence(s) (no identifying resident information) that led to your facility issuing discharge notices. We are interested in financial, behavioral, and clinical circumstances that led to the discharge notice and the associated resistance to that discharge—and we are interested in the real impact on the individual resident, other residents, or staff when there are delays.
