The community of Alamosa has received a Local Foods Local Places planning grant with the potential for implementation funds after the plan is in place. More than sixty communities across the nation have gone through this process, and have grown their local food economy and downtowns with positive results.
Some of the topics we’ll be making a plan around include local and healthy food, economic opportunities, becoming a vibrant and prosperous downtown, integrating food, arts and music, strengthening our farmers market, expanding food access, health, and wellness, walkability, and more.
There will be a workshop in Alamosa on September 18 and 19 to create an action plan for moving forward. In preparation for the workshop, the planning team would like to get input, ideas and participation from business owners, community stakeholders, and others interested in this effort.
