The Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF) and the Queensland State Department of Education (DoE) are offering a unique professional development experience for teachers in Japan and Australia.

This program aims to upskill and inspire teachers to become a more innovative teacher in a post-pandemic 'new normal' education world in 2021. We are calling for eligible and interested teachers to apply.
PROGRAM DETAILS

This is a virtual professional development opportunity sponsored by AJF and Queensland DoE. The program features the following sessions:
 
Upskill Workshop
Focus: Developing competency in effective online and remote teaching
Date: 22 March 2021 (Monday)
Time: 14:00 to 16:00 (Japan time)
Commitment: Two hours workshop attendance. No assessment.
Instructor: Experienced content expert/s by DoE

Upskill Workshop
Focus: Inquiry based learning (IBL) teaching method
Date: 24 March 2021 (Wednesday)
Time: 14:00 to 16:00 (Japan time)
Commitment: Two hours workshop attendance. No assessment.
Instructor: Experienced content expert/s by DoE

Collegial X-Change Forum
Focus: Teaching in a cross-cultural environment with confidence
Date: 26 March 2021 (Friday)
Time: 10:00 to 12:00 (Japan time)
Commitment: Two hours workshop attendance. No assessment.
Instructor: Experienced content expert/s by DoE

Virtual Practicum (Optional)
Focus: Opportunity to deliver lesson in Queensland classrooms
Date: 4-7 May 2021
Time: Up to one hour lesson between 09:00 and 14:00 (Japan time)
Commitment: Up to one (1) hour practicum lesson plus lesson planning time

Optional: Upon completing the program, participants are encouraged to apply the learning to their own teaching and share with us their outcome or feedback in digital form such as video recordings, photos, social media posts, school newsletters, etc.

The program is fully funded by AJF and Queensland DoE. No fee is payable by the participants.

All sessions are delivered live via internet. Participants can attend from their office or home. Queensland DoE will provide the virtual platform access.
OUTCOMES
  • Participants will develop new and useful teaching skills to enhance their future teaching, especially in a post-pandemic new normal environment.
  • Participants will develop confidence teaching in a cross-cultural classroom and build relationships with other like-minded Australian teachers.
  • Participants will have the opportunity (optional) to teach virtually in a real Queensland classroom.
  • Each participant who successfully complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by the Queensland Department of Education.
  • The top three (3) participants demonstrating a high level of success in implementing the new learning, will receive a Certificate of Excellence issued by the Queensland Department of Education.
ELIGIBILITY
  • You are currently a practicing teacher in a school in Japan, preferably an English language teacher; and
  • Japanese is your first language and you have intermediate level (or above) of English as a second language; and
  • You are available to attend the program sessions; and
  • You have a strong desire to upskill your professional teaching and make connections with Australian teachers; and
  • You have access to reliable internet connection and a computer.

To register, please complete and submit the form below as soon as possible. We will stop accepting new applications after 18 January 2021. However, seats are very limited and we do not guarantee that all registrations received prior to the deadline can be accepted. Applicants who register early and provide good information in full will have a better chance of getting accepted.
