Architect Matt Bridgestock has produced 3 initial sketched maps of his ideas for how the area around Culag Harbour in Lochinver could possibly be developed.

Sketch 1 is relatively modest, and could potentially be achieved within a few years.

Sketch 2 is much more ambitious, would take longer, and would only happen if Highland Council and existing users of sites all wished it to happen.

Sketch 3 is one which Matt produced as a possible 'blue sky thinking' long term future for the area, which he thought may make sense in terms of changed land use for different areas.  It would be at least 20 years away if it were to happen at all; it would be dependent on far more owners and users of sites wishing it to happen, and would be dependent on much higher levels of funding.

Matt wishes to stress that all three are his initial suggestions, not endorsed by Assynt Development Trust or anyone else.  As a starting point for this community-led design project, opinions are sought as to which bits of which proposals you would or wouldn't like to see happen, what other ideas you have for these sites, and any other thoughts you have for other sites or other possible kinds of development.

Sketch 2.
- 3 Affordable homes and increased parking and garden areas on sites of sheds and fenced compound to east of Coach House
- Improved visitor area at end of breakwater
- Temporary use of upper part of quarry near breakwater as events venue
- Development of quarry to west of Leisure Centre for industrial units
and also same suggestions as in Sketch 1.

(The additional 3 housing units development could only go ahead if suitable alternative sites were secured for current uses of sites.  Matt has shown some of his initial suggestions for gas cylinder / hardware supplies storage on the sketch, including an area behind the hardware store and the site of the metal clad building beside the hardware store.)

Sketch 3.
This option is only included as a possible long-term future idea from Matt Bridgestock, and includes sites not raised by ADT, and sites not owned by Highland Council (so not able to be developed by ADT through a possible community asset transfer).  Thoughts on this sketch are nonetheless welcome.
It includes:
- Major built development (probably a hotel) at the quarry site beyond the breakwater
- Relocation of industrial land use to the quarry west of the Leisure Centre (requiring major investment to level that area and create built industrial units with vehicle access).
- Around 20 affordable housing units in total, including on privately owned currently-industrial sites.
- improved access from the Coach House area to the Leisure Centre and Culag Woods.
- a stairway and viewpoint on the high rock area immediately south of Culag Gardens.
