Adaptive Bike Program Pilot Lincoln Ne

The City of Lincoln, in partnership Heartland Bike Share & the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is exploring developing an Adaptive Bike Program Pilot to improve access to cycling and bike share so residents and visitors of all abilities can realize the mobility benefits that cycling provides.

The goals of this survey are to:

~Determine the type(s) of cycles that would work best for you
~Determine what type of user experience you would prefer

Your feedback is crucial to ensuring the program is equitable, sustainable, and successful! We appreciate you taking the time to participate.

The survey includes 19 main questions and 5 optional questions. It should take about 8-10 minutes to complete.

5.What type of adaptive bike would you be interested in riding?

Three-wheel tricycle or trike - features three wheels, which makes it easier for the rider to balance and more comfortable to ride. This cycle may be useful for persons needing more stability and storage space.

Hand-cycle – works like other cycles except foot pedals are replaced with handles that also steer. Riders use their arms to push the handles around to drive the chain and wheels. This cycle may be useful for people with limited or no lower body movement. They may also be useful for rebuilding upper body strength, for example, for people recovering from a stroke.

Side-by-side tandem bicycle – made for two people to ride together and can be operated by one or two people. Tandem cycles may be useful for persons unable to operate a bicycle independently. They may also be helpful for blind persons or those with low vision.

Upright tandem bicycle - similar benefits as side by side tandem but with typical 2 wheel bike form & function. Made for two people to ride together and can be operated by one or two people. Tandem cycles may be useful for persons unable to operate a bicycle independently. They may also be helpful for blind persons or those with low vision.

Electric Pedal Assist - typical 2 wheel bike with the addition of an electric motor powered by an on-board battery. The motor asists riders in providing power to the drivetrain in order to help propel the bicycle with less effort. E-bikes may be useful for persons with limited lower body strength or the ability to effectively pedal a typical bike with force.

Station-based: Users go to an automated station to borrow an adaptive bike by using a membership card, credit card or other device to unlock a bike Users adjust adaptive bikes themselves (for example: height of the seat, handlebars, etc.) A trip starts when a user checks out an adaptive bike from a station and ends when they return the bike to a station (either the same station or a different one)

Staffed Location: Users go to a staffed location to borrow an adaptive bike (for example: a community center or bike shop) Staff adjusts adaptive bikes for users (for example: height of the seat, handlebars, etc.) and provides other help as needed A trip starts when a user checks out an adaptive bike from the staffed location and ends when they return the bike to a staffed location (either the same location or a different one)

Station-less or dockless: Adaptive bikes are located throughout a service area, and users can use a smartphone or other device to find and unlock a bike nearby Users adjust adaptive bikes themselves (for example: height of the seat, handlebars, etc.) A trip starts when a user unlocks an adaptive bike and ends when they park and re-lock the bike (users can end their trip anywhere in the service area)
