Greetings!

The Florida Asthma Coalition is a statewide, voluntary partnership of organizations and individuals who are committed to improving the prevention and control of asthma in Florida through community and state level actions. The Articles of Operation and Conflict of Interest Policy for the Coalition are provided on the following webpage: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/Environment/medicine/Asthma/asthmacoalition.html

Who can be a member?
Anyone interested in asthma prevention and control in Florida may join the coalition. Membership is free. Members include representatives from county health departments, community health centers, hospitals, universities, insurers, professional associations, health care professionals, community health workers, nurses, certified asthma educators, teachers, those who oversee the care of children, environmental specialists, faith-based programs, and individuals who have asthma or care for a person with asthma. Members focus on a range of issues, such as: professional and community education, data collection and evaluation, and building community partnerships.

What does the Coalition do?
The job of the Coalition is to teach community partners how to institute effective asthma prevention and control systems, and how to find and leverage resources that support these systems. All members agree to promote asthma prevention, education, and care in their communities, whether they define their communities as a neighborhood, county, region, statewide network, or otherwise.

Networking opportunities:
The Coalition’s annual general membership meeting is a forum where current topics affecting asthma prevention and control are discussed. Forum participants receive important information; strengthen their existing networks; and make valuable contacts with local, state, and federal experts in asthma prevention and control. Additionally, access to the member directory will improve networking and communication among members.

Leadership opportunities:
If you would like to be even more involved, you can join one or more of the coalition’s five workgroups: Community Education and Management, Environment Triggers, Clinical Management and Education, Evaluation, and Surveillance. Simply check the appropriate box(es) on the membership form and you will be included in meeting/conference call notices for the workgroup(s) and/or committee of your choice.

Thank you for your contributions to asthma prevention and control in Florida!
