Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete this survey. The Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (FAIC) is interested in how the Conservation Assessment Program (CAP) and similar assessments have helped museums, what need there might be for assessments in the future, and how such assessments might be improved.

CAP was launched by the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) 25 years ago and administered by Heritage Preservation. The program subsidizes costs for a general conservation assessment. An assessor visits a museum and provides a written report evaluating the condition and environment of collections and exhibits, museum staffing and training, and policies and procedures concerning the use of collections. They then suggest steps the institution can take to improve collections care. A second assessor can also be requested to evaluate historic structures to provide recommendations on repairs, preservation, and ways to integrate the conservation plan for the collections and historic buildings. A follow-up assessment, ReCAP, is also available for institutions that wish to update their plans.

You do not have to have been involved with CAP or any other assessment to contribute to this survey. We are looking at future needs as well as past assessments. However, if your institution has had a CAP assessment in the past, it would be most useful to have someone respond who was directly involved with that process.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Eric Pourchot, FAIC Institutional Advancement Director, at epourchot@conservation-us.org

Thank you in advance for your assistance!
