The Arab American Action Network (AAAN) is pleased to offer 30 paid youth positions for Summer 2016. The AAAN provides these opportunities to extend educational and leadership development experience for high school teens.

In this program, youth will:

• Develop spoken word, poetry and/or rap pieces, and perform before live audiences
• Enjoy a variety of team-building exercises, group games, films and field trips
• Discuss issues affecting our community in order to gain a better social and political understanding
• Learn basic youth organizing skills
• Organize a youth led action
• Work to combat racial profiling against Arabs/Muslims
• Work in teams on various projects


The Summer 2016 program will begin on Monday July 11th, 2016 and end on August 19th, 2016 and will be based out of the AAAN’s main office located at 3148 W. 63rd St. 2nd Floor; Chicago, IL 60629.


Qualifications Needed:

• Must be a current high school student or graduated this year
• Must be able to get to and from the AAAN office or program site
• Must demonstrate interest in the program
• Must complete application and interview process


Experiences to be Gained:
• Opportunity to learn about real issues that are affecting the Arab and Arab-American community
• Opportunity to develop public speaking and performance skills
• Opportunity to work individually and with a team on projects that will benefit the community
• Opportunity to work in a professional setting at a nonprofit organization
• Opportunity to gain skills in community organizing and action
• Opportunity to make new friends and have fun!

PROGRAM SCHEDULE:

Monday-Thursday 12:00-4:00pm


Youth must be able to commit to all hours for the entire program.
