Training Workshop: Effective Collaboration in Multidisciplinary Research: A Learning Experience

Date: 3 November 2009, 9:00-13:00

Venue: ESRI, Whitaker Square, Sir Rogerson’s Quay

This Training Workshop is part of the project “Strengthening the role that Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) have on the European Research Area Development” (PLATON+ www.platonplus.net) funded under the EU RTD 7th Framework Programme.

This project aims to communicate socio-economic research results to policy makers, Civil Society Organisations and business communities across Europe, and to contribute to strengthening collaboration between socio-economic researchers and researchers from other disciplines.

The objective of this Training Workshop is to engage researchers from both Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities and other research areas into a group-based learning experience to help participants to understand the value of Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities integration in techological research. It will also highlight the complex and demanding collaboration context in cross-disciplinary research.

This will be achieved through the use of a simulation game (EUROBOT simulation, developed at INSEAD, France) for a ‘learning by doing' experience, focusing on collaboration dynamics in European settings and on assessing the impact and role of Social Sciences in knowledge creation.
