We invite you to participate in a statewide on-line survey on the paths to college for undocumented students.
Requirements to participate in the on-line survey:
• Born outside of the United States • Have been undocumented for part or most of your education in the U.S. • 18 years of age or older • Reside in California • Student not currently enrolled at a college or university may still fill out the survey if they plan to return to complete their education within a year.
The Undocumented College Student Experience Project, is funded by the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at California State University Northridge (CSUN), and conducted by Dr. Gabriela Chavira at CSUN, graduate student researchers at UC Santa Cruz and New Mexico State University and a youth organizer at the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA). This project is designed to better understand the different challenges and resources experienced by undocumented students enrolled in colleges and universities in California.
The research will add to the literature on undocumented college students (AB 540) and the the various services they need to graduate from institutions of higher education.
Participation in this study is completely anonymous. We will NOT collect any form of identifying information (please do not include your name, addresses, or any other identifying information in the responses). The cumulative results of the study will be published in academic journals and distributed to various organizations that that cater to undocumented students. All publications will not have any identifying information. All of the data will be securely stored in the principle investigator's research lab and will be destroyed at the conclusion of the study.
There are minimal risks in participating in this study. Some risks include becoming fatigue by answering the questions. To overcome fatigue, participants will be given the opportunity to complete the survey in sections. Other risks include slight discomfort by some of the questions. To overcome this risk, participants have the option to skip over questions if they feel any discomfort. Each participant has the right to withdraw their participate in this survey at any time and without jeopardy.
Participants will not receive any monetary compensation for their participation. However, it is hoped that the results of this study will help in the development of resources and services for undocumented students throughout the state of California.
