LivingLabs - Nantucket is a 16 credit hour residential program on the island of Nantucket. The program is open to ALL UMass Boston students regardless of major.
It is designed for undergraduate students who are interested in gaining experience and expertise in the environmental disciplines through formal course work and research. Courses range from environmental science to environmental studies to the fine arts. All of the courses are designed around the rich cultural history and environments of Nantucket.
The structure of the semester is designed so that students focus on one class at a time through block (3-4 week) scheduling. In addition to classes students complete research projects that are explicitly linked to real environmental issues on Nantucket.
Acceptance to the program is very competitive and is based not only on your academic performance but your capacity for independent research and leadership potential. This is a learning community experience and so being a good citizen and community member are a must.
Upon receipt of your application we will contact your references. Based on these materials we will schedule an interview with you so that you and participating faculty mentors can meet and discuss the program and our mutual expectations. Once selected students will participate in a series of group meetings both towards the end of Spring 2013 and in Fall 2013 prior to departing for the island. Selected students are required to attend all activities associated with the program.
When you're ready to complete the application, please go to the next page.
