The purpose of this form is to gather information on students who wish to cancel their Housing Contract.
In order to be considered for release from your housing contract, you must demonstrate that there is a substantive change in your medical or financial situation from the time you signed your contract. This must be verified by a University office. It is your responsibility to provide documentation and meet with the appropriate department on campus to verify your new situation. Supporting documentation is critical (i.e. change of status with Student Financial Services, doctor’s recommendation reviewed by Student Disability Services and/or the Health and Wellness Center, etc). Merely telling us there is a change in your status will not be enough to be released from your housing contract.
Review of your request will take up to five business days. You are responsible for your housing contract unless you are released, in writing, by the Housing Contract Appeals Committee. Do not sign any other contract or lease unless you have received written notification that you have been released from your housing contract.
Please be aware of the following timeline:
Before or on May 1:
Students may cancel their housing contract, without penalty, by submitting a written request to the Office of Residence Life.
Between May 2 and June 30:
Students may cancel their housing contract by submitting a written request. Students are not financially obligated to the housing contract; however, a contract breakage fee of $350 will be assessed.
Between July 1 and July 31:
Students may cancel their housing contract by submitting a written request. Students are not financially obligated to the housing contract; however, a contract breakage fee of $500 will be assessed.
After August 1, 2015:
Residents may request to be released from their housing contract. To do so, they must complete the Contract Cancellation Request Form below. The completed form will be forwarded to the Housing Contract Appeals Committee.
