Please read all the information given below. It is meant to inform you about participation in our research study.
We are graduate students at California State University, Chico conducting a short anonymous survey for a research class. We are interested in your opinions about immigration, unemployment, and underemployment. You are invited to participate in our study supervised by Dr. Patrick Mace, California State University, Chico. We hope to learn about the opinions of people who read internet news service story public comments. You were selected as a possible participant in this study because you read these comments.
If you decide to participate, we ask that you complete the following anonymous online survey. It consists of 24 questions and takes about 15 minutes to complete. Since the survey is completely anonymous, we foresee no risks to you as a result of your participation. You may benefit by knowing that you are contributing to our educational effort and adding to our understanding of internet news commenting. We cannot guarantee, however that you will receive any benefits from this study Other than the loss of your time, there is no cost for participating. Likewise, there is no compensation for your participation.
Any information that is obtained in connection with this study will remain anonymous. You will not be identified and no effort will be made to identify you or connect you personally with your answers. If you participate by completing the survey, we plan to use the aggregate of your answers along with the answers of others who complete the survey for our classroom learning, conference presentation and academic publication. In these presentations, no identifiable individual respondent information will be presented.
Your decision whether or not to participate will not prejudice your future relations with California State University, Chico. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and to discontinue participation at any time without penalty. The Committee on the Protection of Human Subjects at California State University, Chico reviewed and approved the present research.
