Creative Interventions, the Revolution Starts at Home Collective, the Safe OUTside the System Collective of the Audre Lorde Project, and the Young Women's Empowerment Project are seeking to connect with groups who are working to reduce and eliminate violence in our communities without relying on policing and state systems. We are looking for groups who are using strategies aimed at preventing, intervening in, responding to, and healing from violence through strengthening relationships and communities, emphasizing mutual responsibility for addressing the conditions that allow violence to take place, and holding people accountable for violence and harm. Some of us call this type of organizing work transformative justice, community-accountability, or community-based responses to violence, but we recognize that many of us are using a wide range of creative strategies for addressing violence as part of organizing efforts in our communities when we can’t or don’t want to access state systems to keep us safe.
We are excited that a growing number of organizations and communities are developing and exploring these strategies, and feel that we are at a watershed moment for building with and supporting each other. We are hoping to build a broader network of organizations so that we can intentionally share successes, strategies and lessons learned. We are particularly interested in hearing from and connecting with other groups led by Women, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two-Spirit, Trans, and Gender Non Conforming People and People of Color.
We hope you will join us in building a network of folks and organizations engaged in this type of work by filling out the form below and forwarding this email widely!
