NWU Alumni Serve Cafe Capitol Hill (CHUMC)-421 Seward Square SE.(Eastern Market or Capitol S metro)

The Capitol Hill Cafe was started about 15 years ago, as a 1x a month bag lunch for about 25 people. Now, we share a meal each Sunday at 12:15pm with about 90 people in our community. Some are housed and some are un-housed. We also strive for a community of mutuality--not one group serving and another group being served--but how are we all in this together.

In addition the Sunday meal, our church also serves a hot breakfast 5 mornings a week (Monday-Friday) with a bible study on Wednesday. The morning crowd could include anywhere from 10-40 guests.

Our kitchen is certified as a commercial kitchen, meaning that we have to uphold certain standards of cleanliness, so once a quarter we schedule volunteers for a deep clean. This is what the NWU DC Alums will be achieving on Saturday, September 6--a sparkling, clean kitchen!
