Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon is proud to be hosting Defense and Local Community Listening Posts near the state’s three largest military communities in the coming months. These Listening Posts will give residents, military families, employers, elected officials and others an opportunity to voice challenges and opportunities in their region. Lieutenant Governor Simon will share responses from these events with the State’s Interagency Military Base Support and Economic Development Committee (IMBSEDC). Established by state law, the Lieutenant Governor chairs the IMBSEDC with the director of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity as the vice-chair. The IMBSEDC is charged with acting as a communications clearing house for issues affecting defense and local communities as well as base retention and reutilization.
Our bases contribute immeasurably to our nation’s security and they generate jobs that support many Illinois families. We recognize that the communities near to military bases often face unique challenges not present in other areas of the state. The goal of these listening posts is for Lieutenant Governor Simon to hear from local communities and military families about the status of community involvement with the local installations and how the community and military bases are working together to promote retention and better quality of life for the community.
