The City of Tracy (the City) is situated in the San Joaquin Valley Region. The San Joaquin Valley Region has a serious air pollution problem, created by the use of motor and recreational vehicles, indoor and outdoor burning and industrial emissions. Spare the Air is a voluntary effort from June through September aimed at reducing air pollution. Residents are notified by television, radio, newspaper etc., of days when air quality is forecast to reach unhealthy levels. The City is seeking to address Spare the Aire issues in Tracy, by encouraging residents to use public transportation (TRACER) to conduct personal, medical, educational and social activities etc. In turn, armed with the correct information about the value of using public transportation, those riders will encourage friends and family members to do the same, and possibly Spare the Air year-round.
