Linden Lab’s Second Life released voice communication options in August 2, 2007.

The following survey will help us understand the use and effectiveness of Voice-over-IP (VoIP) for Second Life residents. It may also help provide advice for people just entering the virtual world from experienced residents.

Both residents who use voice and those who do not are invited to complete the survey.

You are being asked to take part in a research study about how you communicate with others inworld in Linden Lab’s Second Life.

Taking part in this research study will not cost you anything. You will not be paid to participate.

There are no risks expected from being in this research study. You will not get any personal benefit from being in this research study. The alternative to participating is simply not to complete the survey.

Should you decide to participate in this study, your identity will remain confidential. Data will be reported in an aggregate form. The information collected is confidential, that is no one knows what information is from which survey respondent.

SurveyMonkey is being used to ensure that data remains private and secure. The data will reside behind a firewall with the latest intrusion prevention technology and is only accessible by the researchers. Electronic documents will be destroyed after 5 years following the collection of the data.
