2013 Rev. Pedro Arrupe, S.J. Award for Social Justice
Fr. Pedro Arrupe was elected superior general of the Society of Jesus, the first Basque to occupy this position since the founder of the Jesuits, Ignatius of Loyola. In his address to Jesuit alumni in July 1973, Fr. Arrupe called upon Jesuit schools to educate men and women to serve others, an ideal that now guides Jesuit schools across the world.
This award recognizes an individual who exemplifies a commitment to service and the promotion of justice for the marginalized. In the legacy of Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ, the student is a role model to others and has dedicated his or her Loyola experience to service.
