You are invited to attend the first annual OPEN HOUSE for the Conquer Chiari Research Center (CCRC) at the University of Akron.
Saturday, 9am-3pm, April 27th, 2013
The CCRC was established April 2012 as part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Bryn Martin was hired as the first CCRC Director in June 2012 and we moved into the newly constructed Engineering Building on Wolf Ledges Parkway in January of 2013. The CCRC is the world's first non-clinical center solely dedicated to the advancement of Chiari research. Over the first year, the center has grown to include ten faculty members and 13 student researchers, and an in-house neurosurgical resident program is being established. The CCRC is supported by Chiari malformation patient donations through the Conquer Chiari Patient Education and Research Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in Wexford, Pa. This open house will allow people to meet and interact with the researchers, see lab demonstrations, tutorials, and research presentations. So far, we have more than 70 people registered for this event coming from outside of the Akron area (from New York, Kentucky Michigan, Virginia, and Utah). We are now taking registration from UA students/faculty as well as researchers the Akron/Cleveland area, Thus, we expect this number to grow to over 100 participants and possible more.
To learn more about Chiari and the center’s work on this medical disorder you can find more info on the web site: UAkron.chiari-research.org
