What does “inspection” mean?
• A state inspected product is for sale only within the State of Maine.
• A USDA inspected product can be shipped interstate and sold on the internet.
• Custom slaughter/processing means the product is marked "not for sale" and cannot be sold.
• Most state inspected and USDA inspected establishments are also licensed for custom slaughter/processing.
• All domestically raised red deer/elk must be slaughtered/processed at an inspected establishment if offered for sale.
