1. Introduction

Dear Food Establishment Owner/Manager:
Kaua’i County is currently performing an assessment on the feasibility of using locally produced food waste to generate renewable natural gas that could be used to fuel The Kauai Bus and other County fleet vehicles. For this effort, we are attempting to determine the amount of food waste produced on Kaua'i by local restaurants and grocers.
Your participation in this survey will help lead to a healthier Kaua’i. The results of this assessment may lead to projects that could: reduce waste disposal fees, reduce dependence on imported fuels, extend the lifespan of the current landfill, and in general help the environment.
We are distributing this survey to licensed food establishments on Kaua’i that may benefit from food waste recycling. Please complete this survey as soon as possible so that we may move forward together to help keep Kaua’i beautiful for generations to come.
In order for the information to be used, please note that we are asking organizations to identify themselves so that we may follow-up as necessary as this effort evolves. Survey information provided anonymously will not be utilized.
