You are invited to participate in the development of a questionnaire designed to learn about the ways in which some people modify the appearance of their bodies. We hope to gain insight regarding how our questionnaire works, as well as gather participant feedback concerning any ways in which we could improve our questionnaire.

If you decide to participate, you will complete the questionnaire online via a computer. The questionnaire should take you no more than 10-15 minutes to complete. Your answers to this questionnaire are completely anonymous, and no specific identifying information about you will ever be connected to your questionnaire responses. There is little to no risk of physical or psychological harm by participating in the development of the questionnaire. There are also no direct benefits for your participation, but your responses will help us out greatly in the process of developing our new measure.

Your participation is voluntary. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and to discontinue participation at any time without prejudice.

If you have additional questions, concerns, or complaints later on, Alexandra Vizgaitis ( will be happy to answer them for you. If at any time you have questions concerning your rights as a research subject or you have questions, concerns, or complaints about the research, you may call Binghamton University’s Human Subjects Research Review Committee at (607) 777-3818.

This research is fully approved by the Binghamton University HSRRC as of 02/19/2014.
