Join us on Thursday, November 4, 2010 for a one-day tour of the San Joaquin Valley that will challenge your perceptions about what agriculture is and what it could become.
In November when cotton is being harvested and farms throughout the state are at the height of activity, The Sustainable Cotton Project offers a one-day tour traveling a central loop through the San Joaquin Valley. Participants gain a behind-the-scenes look at the many sides of cotton production.
Come and see conventional cotton cultivation and the Sustainable Cotton Project’s Cleaner CottonTM program. Enjoy a tour of a cotton gin as well as a short talk by Dr. Marcia Sablan, a Firebaugh physician and community member.
The tour and lunch are complimentary. There will be water and snacks on the bus.
You are responsible for your own travel and hotel arrangements. Lodging: Vagabond Inn Executive, 20 West Pacheco Blvd, Los Banos, CA 93635. We reserved rooms under the name "Cotton Farm Tour." The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast for guests. Call 800-522-1555 to reserve your room.
The tour begins promptly at 8:30am, at the Vagabond Inn. The tour ends around 4pm.
Please wear close-toed shoes for walking in fields, a hat and sunscreen.
