Thank you for your interest. The Laboratory Interoperability Cooperative (LIC) is providing several free 1-day LOINC workshops for hospital staff. Hospital lab managers and directors, as well as hospital-based health information technology professionals, are encouraged to attend this workshop.

The Workshop will cover -
  • Introduction to LOINC: What Is It? How is it Used?;
  • Overview of Meaningful Use: Public Health Reporting for Stage 1 and Beyond;
  • Guidance regarding the usage of the CDC’s Reportable Condition Mapping Table (RCMT) and/or Regenstrief LOINC Mapping Assistant (RELMA);
  • Guidance on mapping LOINC codes to your local data dictionary (although the actual mapping will be done by you); and
  • Available Resources: Toolkit including the LIC ELR LOINC Best Practice Guidelines/Mapping Template.

At this session, participants will:
  • Gain important skills to meet the Meaningful Use criteria for Electronic Lab Reporting (ELR) to public health agencies;
  • Learn how to map LOINC codes to your local data dictionary; and
  • Obtain access to special online tools, resources and support through LIC participant portal.

The Lab Interoperability Cooperative (LIC) is comprised of Surescripts, the American Hospital Association (AHA), and the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The LIC operates under a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in coordination with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) within the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The group is organized to facilitate the electronic submission of reportable lab results from hospital laboratories to Public Health Agencies.

Note: As a federally-funded grant, our obligation is to track participation in our efforts. As part of this requirement, each facility must complete a Hospital Participation Letter (linked here and below). We ask that one representative review, sign and return in order to secure your place in the workshop – this is your RSVP. Upon our receipt of the signed document, we will send your final event confirmation and day of event logistics. LIC services are for hospital laboratories and hospital based staff only; public health and commercial laboratories are ineligible for LIC services.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided at the workshop for all participants.
