A point prevalence study of current workforce and demographic patterns of CICM trainees with respect to full-time or less than full time status
Introduction
Thank you for agreeing to participate in this survey.
The primary aim of the survey is to define the current workforce and demographic patterns of CICM trainees with respect to hours worked, and to identify disparities between rostered and desired hours.
The secondary aim of this study are 1) to examine the reasons behind trainees’ requests to work full time or less than full time and 2) to examine barriers and challenges in obtaining less than full time work as an intensive care trainee
Inclusion criteria:
- Current CICM trainees (including trainees seconded to other specialties)
- Recent (<1 year) CICM graduates
Exclusion criteria
- Trainees working in ICU who not a part of the CICM training program
- CICM fellows of 1 year or more
Some questions will pertain to CICM training, others will pertain to current employment arrangements.
This project is independently funded and has been ethics approved (VicTRI-21387). The results of this research will be used by the investigators to describe the working patterns of CICM trainees, as well as supply versus demand of flexible training positions, as well as their barriers and facilitators . The results of the survey may be published alongside a broader article describing the CICM training and

Any information we collect and use during this research project will be treated as confidential. Only the researchers involved with this project and the Austin Health Ethics Committee can have access to this information.
