Grower Survey

The purpose of this survey is to better understand grower perspectives when it comes to orchard renewal and implementing new orchard growing systems such as the two-dimensional FOPS (Future Orcharding Planting Systems). We would like to know the drivers that influence your decision making, who it is you rely on for the most up-to-date knowledge and support, and what you think are some of the benefits and barriers when it comes to utilising certain growing systems. This will help us design the rest of the project to (where possible) address major barriers to adoption, or focus on areas where additional information would assist those already growing FOPS or similar systems.

This survey focuses on apples, cherries, pears, and apricots in both the Hawkes Bay and Central Otago regions. It is part of a larger project that is supported by the Ministry for Primary Industries' (MPI), Plant and Food Research (PFR), New Zealand Apples & Pears, Rockit Global, and Summerfruit New Zealand.

Section 1 is about letting us know who you are. Section 2 gives you the opportunity to tell us more about your operation and some of the decisions you have made over the past 10 years. Section 3 focuses on new knowledge in the industry and who you rely on for support. Section 4 looks more closely at FOPS, what benefits you consider it might offer, any concerns you have, and any further information you would find beneficial in deciding which growing system to use. You will also have the opportunity to discuss anything else that hasn't already been covered in the survey.

By completing this survey, you agree to allow Plant and Food Research the opportunity to analyse the results and use this data to realise possible trends in the industry. All personal details will be kept confidential, all individual block data will be anonymised and will only be used for this project. No data will be used to identify you and your operation. All records will be kept in a secure area at PFR and will be the responsibility of the evaluators. You have the right to request access to the information you provide and to request correction in the event that this is necessary. Data will be stored until it is no longer required, at which stage it will be destroyed (except for a copy that will be kept in a secure back-up system).
