Paston Footprints project background

This project, entitled ‘Paston Footprints’, aims to bring individuals and communities together with the Paston Heritage Society in partnership with the University of East Anglia, to find out more about the story of the Paston Family.

The Paston family are deeply rooted in Norfolk history. Many people today can trace family tree links, live beside a Paston building, route or walkway. Even the local Norfolk dialect has links with the Pastons. Their letters illuminate, as no other collection does, the journey of an ordinary family from a small manor in North Norfolk to the battlefields of Europe and the dangerous Tudor court. Many colourful characters and dramatic historical moments emerge when you read these records and much more has yet to be discovered about the Pastons.

2018 marks the 600th anniversary of the first known Paston Letter, and there are plans for a region-wide festival. We are looking for people interested in getting involved in any way at all. Perhaps you want to learn more about these fascinating letters and the incredible story they tell, want to get involved in the research or support an activity or perhaps just attend a family activity.

We would welcome your feedback and invite you to complete a short questionnaire to help us plan the activities. Whether you are  an expert, a history buff, have never heard of the Paston letters or are just up for an activity in your area, we want your views.

The survey will only take a few minutes to complete.
